Batu Caves

Batu Caves is a holy place for Hindu Religion where there are several temples and the statue of Lord Murugan.it is located about 12km north side of Kuala Lumpur. It is said that Batu Caves is a limestone hill which is 400 years old. There are many caves in this hill. The place mainly consisted by three big caves and a couple of small cave. The main and biggest cave is on 100m above where inside has a temple. To reach there you need to be climbed up 272 steps on the hill. There are two beautiful temples in the basement of the hill. You can see several artwork and statues on the temple.

The statue of Lord Murugan is the iconic creation of Malaysia.it is the top attraction of Batu caves. The statue is 42.7 m high and took 3 years to build the statue. Three hundred liters gold paint used on the statue. The construction cost is about 2.5m ringgit.

The best time is early morning to visit and take some nice pictures without unwanted objects. And also climbing up can be difficult in hot weather. The place getting busy as the time of day. It takes about 10 minutes to climb up 272 steps. A lot of monkeys play around but they never harm you until you bother them. There are many shops of gifts and usual items.

Dress Code

The rule is to cover your knees with clothes. You can’t go up inside the cave unless your knees are covered with cloth. Women also need to cover shoulders. Singlets top not allowed both men and women. They offer sarong to rent by RM5 and they refund RM2 once you return the sarong. To avoid extra costs follow the dress code before visit the place.

How to go at location

Train can be the best option to go Batu Caves. From KL Sentral ride on Batu caves line KTM. It will take 40 minutes to arrive the last station which is Batu caves. Train is available about every 30 minutes. Buy a ticket for Batu caves from the KTM ticket counter for RM2.6.

Grab car is more comfortable and cheap from the Center if your group of 3-6 persons. The fare can be about RM 20-RM30 on off-peak hours. Six seater is a little bit more.

To ride on a bus for Batu caves might be a hassle and complicated but the fare is so cheap RM 1.20. The bus is available in every 30 minutes.

Things to avoid

Pet and smoking not allowed inside the cave. Never feed to monkeys. Don’t carry drinks or food in your hand.
